496. Chapter 496 Weinstein's date

"Hey, Harvey!" After entering the club, Shawn quickly found Harvey Weinstein sitting on the round sofa, and then quickly walked over and greeted him.

"Is there anything wrong with me?" After a simple hug from him who stood up, he asked again.

"Yes, of course," Weinstein laughed, and then introduced the middle-aged man who had just sat with him and talked to him: "This is Paul, Paul Thomas Anderson."

Then he turned around and said, "Paul, this is the famous Sean Tang."

The latter immediately stood up and looked at him with an interesting look, while reaching out his hand, "I'm glad to see you, Sean."

"I'm glad to see you, Paul," Sean replied, and hesitated, "where have we seen it?"

"I've seen you, but it's only from far away." Anderson said with a smile, staring at him intently, and was a little unscrupulous, as if he wanted to stare him out of a hole.

Sean frowned, but didn't say much. Many people had some quirks. Since Weinstein solemnly recommended Anderson to himself, there must be important things, so there is no need to pay too much attention.

"No, no," he shook his head, then tapped his fingers on his head, "Let me think about it carefully... Paul should be the director, right?"

Anderson and Weinstein exchanged glances, neither of them spoke, but the latter shrugged.

Sean knocked his head and continued to recall. He did look familiar with Anderson, and it took a few seconds to make a sudden realization: "If I remember correctly, "Magnolia" and "Bulin Night", right?"

Weinstein immediately said to Anderson, and then said clearly: How about it?

"Have you seen my work?" Anderson's expression of interest became even stronger.

"Yes, Mark Wahlberg and I are friends, and we often comment on each other's works. I have a good impression of "Bully Night", so I watched "Magnolia" by the same director. Frankly speaking, I like the latter a little more." Sean said, complimenting without leaving any trace.

"Is that true? Can I know the reason?" Anderson asked immediately.

"Two, let's sit down and talk." Weinstein coughed dryly at this time.

Then, they sat down together to discuss the movie - basically discussing Anderson's works, and Weinstein basically didn't speak much, it was all about Sean and Anderson.

Fortunately, Sean has watched "The Unrestrained Night" several times, and although he has only watched "Magnolia" once, because the plot is quite good, he still remembers some details clearly. Anderson's topic has been on these two movies, constantly asking him about his feelings, his views on some details, etc.

To be honest, there was nothing at the beginning, and Sean basically answered questions again, but later he became a little irritated. He didn't know what Anderson was thinking, and repeatedly questioned some topics, like... being interrogated.

However, Sean also knew that Weinstein called him out in person and did not tell him what was going on and who else participated, so it was definitely very important. After several conversations, he realized that Paul Thomas Anderson was quite self-centered. If he seemed uncooperative or impatient, it would likely cause the other party to be disgusted, and this situation would be avoided until the whole thing was understood.

"How is it, Paul, my recommendation is not wrong." After finally stopping, Weinstein said this from the side.

"Not bad, very good..." Anderson looked at Sean with an excited look, and before that, while chatting, he had already looked at him repeatedly.

Although Sean was sure that this gaze had nothing to do with homosexuality, he still couldn't help feeling chills.

"Then..." Weinstein dragged his voice.

Sean didn't speak, quietly waiting for them to confront each other. He could guess what this afternoon's date meant. A director, an actor and a producer would sit together and discuss what it said.

Moreover, Sean also wanted to know that this is called Spike Jones and Quentin Tarantino, and that among the mainstream filmmakers, he recalled a lot during the conversation, after all, he had seen two movies he directed - what could he do to attract himself.

Although Anderson understood what Weinstein meant, he didn't speak at the first time. He supported his chin and pondered for a while, then raised his head and looked at Sean: "You are very good, Sean, you know the movies and the actors very well. You are also very honest and will not hide what you don't know. This is a very good quality. I think I can consider letting you try my new movie."

Just thinking about it? Sean raised his eyebrows slightly, but he still maintained a decent surprise and smile on the surface: "Can I know what kind of story it is?"

"A story about oil, about human greed and evil, who can do anything for the sake of profit," Anderson said quickly. "Of course, it can also be seen as an inspirational story, how a guy who broke his legs turned from a poor miner to an oil tycoon."

He probably knew that this silly talk was not very funny, so he immediately continued: "The script is based on Upton Sinclair's novel "Oil". I have never seen such a deep story. When I got the script, every cell of my cell was trembling, and they shouted, 'You must take it down'! So I agreed without hesitation."

Anderson waved his arms, his tone was very exaggerated, but it can be seen that he really liked the script.

"Originally, Miramax had agreed to invest. If there was no surprise, filming should start in June this year, but... Fortunately, Harvey extended a helping hand and recommended you to me." Anderson continued, "I didn't want to think about it at first because the protagonist is at least over forty years old, and you are only twenty-five years old. It's impossible to play such an old guy until Harvey suggested that I go and see your performance in "The Flyer."

Sean, who listened carefully, couldn't help but glance at Weinstein, who raised his eyebrows proudly, this cunning guy.

In just a few minutes, Sean could basically analyze the general process in his mind. He was just optimistic about the script and wanted to give Disney a good look, which took Miramax away, so he took action to grab it. I don’t know what he said to Anderson, but there must be something like “I’ll find a suitable actor for you” and then brought Sean over.

In this way, it was a good strategy to kill two birds with one stone, but it also continued to capture Anderson and let the script be completely in control.

"I hope it will satisfy you." Sean said immediately.

"How to say it," Anderson knocked his head, "I'm sorry, I don't know you very well. As I said before, I just saw you from afar, but your temperament is indeed mature. You performed well in "The Aviator", especially the contrast between the front and the back, which is very exciting."

"Thank you." Sean smiled slightly, waiting for his next sentence.

"So I promised to meet you and have a close conversation," Anderson said, taking a breath, "Frankly, you left a good impression on me. I like you, Sean, so... I think it's necessary for us to have a one-to-one, after a series of preparatory auditions such as makeup."

"I need to put on old makeup, right?" Sean asked immediately.

"That's right!" Anderson snapped his fingers, "I value this script and this movie very much. I must treat everything carefully. I still don't think you are suitable, but I think you can give it a try."

As he said that, he sat upright again and changed into that interesting look: "This is not a mainstream movie, Sean, and it won't even be a movie that makes people like, black is the eternal tone - do you want to try it?"

After hearing this, Sean couldn't help but raise his eyebrows. This guy is not a fool. Although he is a little self-centered, he also knows how to use provocation, but...

"I'm already excited just by listening to your narrative," said Sean. "I really want to give it a try."

"That's it!" Anderson laughed, "I will notify you of the specific time, Sean."

Then, after a few more talks, he immediately stood up and said goodbye.

"Should you explain, Harvey?" After Anderson left, Sean immediately spoke to Weinstein.

"Isn't it obvious?" Weinstein spread his hands, "I got Paul's script and recommended you to play the leading role. It's a great script, Sean, I promise."

"I know, but I also want to know something I can't guess," Sean picked up his arm. "Harvey, we are partners now, at least you should tell me the whole story."

"Okay OK," Weinstein explained briefly, "In fact, I had already taken a fancy to this novel as early as 2004, but you know, that was also a year when we had frequent conflicts with Disney, and we basically didn't care about it. Then, after we left Miramax, they picked up the script and brought Paul to direct it."

"This is not a happy thing." Sean naturally continued.

"Of course not," Weinstein nodded, "so I'm determined to get the script back, at least I can intervene, but you know that it's not easy, especially I'm determined. Fortunately, because the new management is not particularly important, Paul has to get the script himself, otherwise I don't know how much effort it will take. Even so, I still thought of a lot of solutions, one of which is to tell him that I can find a better actor."

"Are you so sure I can do it?" Sean was a little surprised.

"At least you can impress him." Weinstein laughed, "You did a lot of surprises."
