4. Chapter 4 The audition incident
Sean never thought about how long he would work in this industry. In his opinion, whether it is an actor or a star, he is too far away from him. He is relatively content with his two lives. Taking on this job is just to solve the current problem of eating.
In fact, if he hadn't thought that if he had told the truth to Frederick, who seemed very conscientious, he would have been torn to pieces by the other party.
In any case, Sean is very satisfied with the current job as an extra. He said it was very stable before, because it was introduced by the Enjin Elite Agency - they have such services - so there is no need to worry about not being able to receive it.
Of course, it is incomparable to actors with union backgrounds. SAG, AFTRA and major studios have regulations that a certain proportion of union members must be hired during production of a movie or a TV series.
As for the job is stable, the salary is also stable. Even if the legal minimum salary of $5 per hour is $200 per week. If you work harder and work overtime, the salary during the period is 1.5 times that of the usual one, and you can get $350 or even more per week.
Besides, Sean came through an agency and could not get the minimum salary - but it still cannot compare with union members. The union-joining extras can get more, which is why Ferederick has such advice.
Unfortunately, as Sean himself said, he is on the verge of bankruptcy, where can he still have money to join? AFTRA is fine, only $1,000, SAG costs at least $2,000, and he can't hold it anyway.
Moreover, the union also needs to raise commissions from income, but not as many agents as agents, and extras basically don’t have to pay this fee. But the most interesting thing is that the highest commission ratio is those actors with a pay of tens of thousands or even hundreds of thousands, and the big stars who actually get millions of dollars don’t get much, just like... the US government always makes the middle class idea and indulges the rich - I don’t know if it’s the father or who said it.
Well, besides these, it's a bit easier. Just like Sean now, just sit by the round table, hold the newspaper in front of him, or stand on the street to pretend to chat with others, and the crew also offers a lunch without acting skills. Is there any better job now than this?
With this group of people, he can fully adjust his life, think carefully about what he should do in the future, and make some suitable plans. It is better to avoid such things as those who are rash and loser come to Los Angeles alone in the future.
So the first two weeks of October were the relaxing two weeks after Sean came to Los Angeles. He played the background during the day, and at night he either attended various parties with new friends, or teased Poker in the apartment, read books and surfed the Internet, and then planned his future.
Of course, there are some things he still has to deal with, such as-
"Don't tell me this, Lacey, see what you look like, what qualifications are to teach me a lesson?" Looking at the person sitting in front of him, Sean said in an irritable tone. He looked horizontally, gritting his teeth, but his eyes were a little swim-by, as if he had a little helplessness.
"I haven't thought about teaching you a lesson..." the middle-aged man wearing glasses responded expressionlessly.
"Don't talk nonsense!" Sean roared out in anger.
"Okay, that's all." A voice came over at this time, and Sean, who was tense in his nerves, immediately breathed a sigh of relief.
There were several people sitting next to him, one of whom was in control of a small camera and took all the previous shots. The other always looked as if nothing had anything to do with him. The other three gathered together and whispered to each other.
"Okay, thank you for your performance, Mr. Tang." A few minutes later, the middle-aged man in a black T-shirt, about forty years old and bearded, stood up and said, while making a gesture of invitation.
"Then, Mr. Huglis..." Sean, who was walking out, looked at the middle-aged man with inquiring eyes, wanting to know if he could get the role.
Frankly speaking, Ferederick is a capable agent. He won three auditions for him in three to four weeks, a small supporting role in a popular TV series "Happy Family", and two secondary supporting roles in youth campus-themed films with investments of about 20 million yuan.
Two of them failed the first audition, but they came to the end in the audition of "Get Fame in One Stop", which tells the story of young people pursuing their dreams. Although Sean has no plans to enter the entertainment industry, it would be nice if he had a good role.
I have said before that he has acted in dramas and musicals in school, and has also won rankings in high school competitions across the United States. It is definitely impossible to say that he has no desire to show. If he can have a role to play and get a considerable salary by the way, so that he can save money faster, it is also great.
What's more, maybe you can still get the protagonist. There was no specific role at the beginning of this audition. From the first exam to the second exam, Sean has tried several roles.
"Don't be anxious, Mr. Tang, don't be anxious." Following him, the casting director of the movie, David Huglis, smiled and patted his shoulder.
For some reason, Sean always felt that this guy had something else in his smile, and he felt... familiar?
"Everyone," after leaving the audition room, Huglis will wait a few outside, and the actors who participated in the final audition gathered over. "I have to say, you all performed very well, so it is difficult to decide who is more suitable for a while. I had to hand over your files to the producers and make a judgment. Please wait patiently for the reply, do you understand?"
"Okay, Mr. Huglis." Several candidates nodded.
Sean was also among them. Although he was a little disappointed, he didn't take it too seriously with his current relaxed attitude. However, unexpectedly, when he was about to leave, Huglis gently patted him.
He was a little confused, but soon noticed the other person's eyes. He quickly turned a few thoughts in his head, and finally stayed for a while. He waited until the others walked out before turning to the corridor with Huris.
"You're from San Francisco, are you right, Mr. Tang?" Huglis asked first.
"Yes." Sean clicked.
"It's a beautiful city," Huglis laughed, meaningful, "I wanted to move there for a while, and many of the Hollywood actors are from San Francisco."
Although he felt a little bit unanswered, his tone was controlled just right, making these words sound like a greeting about serious matters.
"Listen, Sean, from my personal perspective, you and Randy Keitel are the most suitable actors for the leading actor." Hugh Reese finally talked about the serious business, "but the producers and investors obviously don't think so. I'm asking you now, do you want to get this role?"
"Well...of course." Sean replied calmly.
"Very good," Hugh Reese narrowed his eyes, as if very satisfied with his answer, "Then the night after tomorrow, our company has a party at the Winston Bar in Beverly Hills. If you want to attend, I can refer you to them at the party and then you can fight for and convince them yourself."
"Has Kettle received the invitation?" After thinking for a few seconds, Sean asked cautiously.
Randy Keitel was one of the actors who auditioned until the end. He didn't know how good his acting skills were. After all, he had never had much contact with him, but he was also a sunny and handsome young man.
"Of course." Huglis nodded.
"Okay, I'll participate." Although something was wrong, Sean agreed, and then heard Huglis say again: "Very good, then I will call you and him separately at a little later tomorrow, and then find a place to lightly explain the specific situation."
Sean frowned in his heart, but he remained silent on the surface: "I understand."
"Let's do it." Huglis patted his shoulder with satisfaction, and the indescribable playfulness emerged from his face again.
What exactly does this guy want to do? After coming out of the studio office area and returning to his car, Sean thought so. He intuition told himself that something was wrong with this guy, but he couldn't tell what was wrong.
In short, what is certain is that the guy's eyes are very familiar, but it is definitely not a good thing. Sean grabbed his head and looked at the studio in the distance through the car window. Why did he feel familiar? And what exactly is the hidden meaning of what he said? He also asked me if I were from San Francisco... wait!
Sean suddenly opened his eyes wide, then took a breath, and the answer jumped out directly and jumped in front of him. Although he felt it was a bit ridiculous, his intuition told him that it was indeed the answer.
"Damn it." Sean turned the steering wheel and smiled bitterly. This was so irritating, it was actually...
After thinking about it, he got out of the car and found a telephone booth, dialed out: "Hey, Fered? It's me, Sean, um... are you free now? I want to talk to you... OK, I'll go there and wait for you."
"You said... he wants to come to you?" Sitting at the small round table under the parasol on the street of the cafe, Ferederick spent a few seconds digesting Sean's words and then showed a smiley expression...
"No doubt, don't forget where I came from, Fered, I'm quite familiar with this kind of gaze." Sean was a little annoyed and a little depressed.
Huglis is a homosexual and very likely. You should know that Sean has lived in San Francisco for almost eighteen years. That place has been the center of gay sex in North America since the 1970s. The rainbow flags hanging outside some communities can make people dazzling. There are also a constant stream of gay and lesbian couples traveling openly on the streets, so he is very familiar with that kind of gaze.
If he hadn't been in Los Angeles for five months and was now planning the future, he would have seen it as soon as possible.
These, plus those hints, there is no need to say much about what the guy asked him out for.
"You called me out for this?" Ferederick asked slowly, "Can you find a store to buy Vaseline and condoms?"
"What are you talking about?" Sean frowned. "Don't you think this is disgusting? I'm not fucking gay!"
"So why?" The agent sighed in his heart.
"I just want to know what's going on." Sean waved his hand, looking very dissatisfied.
