16. Cannon's Words

Suide County is only thirty miles away from Qingjian City, with mountains and water on the left and water on the right. It has now been built into a huge fortress by the Dangxiang Men's and Women's Camp of the Four Thousand Six Prefectures. The wind and rain lamps are hung on all four corners of the city wall. Dangxiang's thin iron sheet is quadrilateral. Iron chains are used on it and hemp rope is wrapped around the wooden boards. Dried firewood is piled up on the wooden boards, mixed asphalt is ignited and burned, and the wind and rain are not extinguished. It is hung on the waist of the city. The city looks bright like a picture, and the city goes to the city and it is pitch black.

Surrounding the city wall, Dangxiang also built an enemy platform, and dense shooting holes were dug inside, which not only allowed to shoot arrows, but also extended a spear to kill approaching enemies.

There are also trenches outside the enemy platform, which were dug by Dangxiang and digging along the foothills. There were also large and small pits on the side of the trenches, and bamboo arrows, thorns, iron hooks, etc. inside. In order to prevent the Tang army from blocking the water source, Dangxiang also used clever ideas: in addition to the open channel at the ditch where the water gate was introduced from the water gate on the west side of the castle, he also secretly dug the underpass under the cliff and poured into the "dark spring" in the city to prevent accidents. In addition, wooden boards and bamboos were used to make "water slips" on the roofs of the houses in the city, and yellow mud was painted in the pipes. When rainwater fell from the sky, it could be poured into stone wells everywhere. It can not only be used for drinking by people and livestock, but also used to irrigate the fields opened in the four-sided fortress in Suide City.

There are seven places in this kind of fortress in the valleys around Suide City, all of which are stationed with troops and beacons, which are also built to call each other for alarm.

No wonder Li Ziliang and Wang Yangui came to attack several times before, but they all returned in disgrace.

When Gao Yue climbed the Chuni Valley in the south of Tuyanchuan (here was originally the old place of Suide County. In the second year of Wude in the Later Tang Dynasty, he moved the nature to the north of Tuyanchuan, which is now the city occupied by Dangxiang), looking at the battlefield situation from afar, Li Ziliang and Wang Yangui, who were still scared, came to ask for instructions:

"Suide City is very strong. The Qiang people also reserve a large amount of food in this city, and there are seven Qiang villages in Old Shicheng, Pushe Fort, Gusilang Fort, Xiexiling, Jiyu Mountain, Chengping Fort, and Baoding Ridge, each with more than a thousand Dangxiang guards, supporting each other. Qihou might as well first attack and clear out the seven Qiang villages on the periphery, divide their troops to guard the important roads of the pass, block the reinforcements from Prince Nixiang from the north, and then encircle Suide City. Once Suide City is captured, the arrogance of the Dangxiang masters will decline, and the next battle will be easy to fight."

But Gao Yue disagreed and said, "Since that's the case, it's better to conquer Suide City first."

Li Ziliang and Wang Yangui were silent.

Gao Yue said: "When siege the city, Yi followed the Qiang soldiers as the vanguard. Then our artifact, the fifth battalion, was in front of the chariots, muskets and cannons, Dingwu Army and Yining Army infantry were behind, and the cavalry were on guard on both wings. Baoda, Jingsai, Fengcheng, Fenghua, and Zhaoyi armies blocked Suide City and other Qiang Villages, and could be determined in one go."

Hearing this, Li Ziliang and Wang Yangui both thought that Gao Yue was either arrogant or crazy.

You should know that they did not defeat Suide several times before. The emperor appointed the elite Guo King Li Zezhi to lead the imperial guards, and was also defeated by Prince Nixiang in Shogushan.

Although Gao Yue defeated Dongshan Dangxiang, Pingxia Dangxiang, and Xifan, in this era, it would be too rampant to say that Suide City, which is "pacified" with the dangerous mountains and streams, isn't it too rampant?

But tomorrow, Gao Yue didn't lie, he had already deployed various generals to attack the city!

Prince Nixiang’s reinforcements were still marching towards Suide City in the Nanhe Valley of Wuding River!

In the plains under Suide City, thousands of Qiang soldiers and Yisong were first beaten drums and shouting, holding bows and arrows, and lined up there, braved the arrowheads shot like rainstorms on the city, and refuted the fire with the fellow tribes guarding Suide. Then Gao Yue's huge "car camp" appeared in the rebellious Dangxiang's vision.

Rather than saying it is a chariot camp, it might be said to be a moving fortress.

The front line is a light chariot with wheels flying, spears stretched forward, and is pushed by soldiers with hand-held guns and rocket guns. On both sides are side vans, also driven by crossbowmen. Outside the edge is a team of cavalry of the Dingwu Army's Yining Army. The middle line is a double-row chariot, the inside is a camel, a "tiger cannon cart" led by mules and horses, a "copper cannon cart", a "Qiu Niang Crow rocket cart", etc. There are also heavy-loaded chariots called "Deyi cart". The rear of the chariot camp is open, and the infantry teams of the Dingwu Yining Army are lined up. Are the flags fluttering in the wild, and the drums are shaking the sky and the earth.

The rebels in Suide City were frightened and they did not dare to rush down the mountain to carry out a raid because the enemy's infantry and cavalry were covered by vehicles.

So soon, all kinds of vehicles in the car camp stopped and connected like moving city walls. The flank side vans were unfolded to cover the extended copper cannon positions. Each workshop used hemp ropes and iron chains, and overlapped them. The long and short weapons and long firearms were combined. The cavalry guarded the side roads and lie across the foot of the mountain in Suide City, like a huge turtle shell.

Soon, the Tang army, Qiang soldiers who had been caught in the arrow, quickly retreated to the middle when the chariot camp was settled;

At the same time, some infantrymen of the Dingwu Army and the Yining Army also ran into the chariot camp from behind and strengthened their guards. Most of the rest stood behind and acted as the main force for the siege.

On the core of the proud car, Gao Gu got on the train and waved the flag backwards.

Amid the drum sound, the carriage and gunners began to quickly unload the divine thunder medicine, projectiles, and various ignition-loading objects in the bags loaded by mules, horses and camels...

Soon, the gun position of the big bronze cannon was dug up, and one gate was set up every long distance, with twenty or thirty gates surrounding the south and east of Suide City, and temporarily silent.

On weekdays, the trainers and gunmen in Gao Yue's army are the most stringent training. The trainers' training is divided into three steps. First, practice the weapon method (understand the process of using the musket), then practice the medicine method (understand how to load the divine thunder medicine), and finally practice the shooting method. Those who use live ammunition to shoot targets must also practice the driving camp. The same is true for the gunners. The most agile can only be used as the personnel who can set the cannons. If they know the basic algorithm, they will be more easily promoted. Therefore, when it comes to war, their operations are very proficient.

Filling medicine and loading bullets is done in one go.

Soon, nearly thirty large bronze cannons fired fireworks one after another, which made the earth shake around Suide City. At the earliest, Gao Gu and Zhang Baobai ordered the four-pound iron bombs to be fired at a fast rate. In a short while, the city wall of Suide City was riddled with holes; soon, the stone bombs were fired enough to destroy the city wall, with a slower rate. However, when one shot flew over, the city wall of rammed earth could basically be resisted.

Quickly, the previous miserable operations of Suide City were all convinced and surrendered under the power of cannons: the walls of the city were blown up one after another, and the corpses hit on the top of the city were gone, turning into powder and blood. The frightened sheep, horses, women and children in the city were running around, and they didn't know how to escape from this hell on earth in the smoke soaring into the sky.
