Chapter 31 The So-called Allies

"Your Excellency Prime Minister."

When Prime Minister Sistine King walked into the church, the young man with chestnut hair and a monocle said hello to him. His tone was routine, polite, but without any emotion.

But for some reason, in the Prime Minister's perception, the young man's eyes stayed on him, as if a blazing and bright light shone on him; all the dark thoughts he had ever had were reflected in this pure

Under the light, there is nowhere to hide.

Unknowingly, he even had an urge to rush to the statue of the goddess of light and confess his crimes.

"Your Excellency, Auxiliary Bishop." The Prime Minister lowered his head and used the honorific title.

The newly appointed auxiliary bishop Howard nodded, his expression as indifferent as before.

People who serve God are like this. The Prime Minister commented silently in his heart. He is cold and arrogant, as if he is not the same species as ordinary people.

But now that he wanted to seek help from the Church of Light, he no longer cared about Howard's attitude.

He walked into the towering door of Hagia Sophia, passed through the columns supporting the dome, and walked towards the dark and narrow row of confessional rooms in the innermost part of the church.

Along the way, he saw an ancient donation box standing on the raised bricks. A group of believers lined up neatly next to it, and each of them devoutly put their donation money into the donation box.

At the foot of the Statue of the Goddess of Light, the famous "Haul of Judgment" still lies there quietly, gathering thick dust and has never been touched for hundreds of years.

"Only a truly pure and innocent person can take it out of the box..." The Prime Minister inadvertently remembered this rumor about the "Hammer of Judgment" and couldn't help but sigh silently. Alas, in this dirty world,

, Where are the truly pure and unsullied people?

Thinking like this, he came to the end of the church unknowingly.

Then he took a deep breath, opened the door to the confessional, and walked in.

There was silence in the confessional room.

There was no sound from the other side of the partition.

The Prime Minister's heartstrings became tighter and tighter. The Archbishop's vague attitude made him feel a heartfelt fear.

When he could no longer bear the suffocating silence, he finally plucked up the courage and spoke first: "I'm sorry, Mr. Bishop...I messed up...please help me...now only

You...only the Church of Light has the ability to save the situation. As long as you are willing to help, I can.”

"What price can you pay?" Archbishop Yaconelga's playful voice finally came from the other side of the partition.

"...Yes." The Prime Minister nodded.

He thought: In this era of great changes, my family's land has been handed over to the bank as a mortgage, and my baronetcy is no longer as valuable as before... In addition to the power in my hands, I also have little reputation left.

I have nothing left. If I can keep these, I am naturally not afraid of making any more sacrifices.

There was another brief silence after that.

I don’t know how much time passed, but Archbishop Nerga on the opposite side finally said leisurely: "You said you messed up the matter?"

"Yes, this is my fault," Prime Minister Sistine lowered his head and said, "Someone leaked the news. But his method is more secretive than I imagined. Major General Hans and I have not yet found out who that person is.

.

"Everything is over now. This matter has been published in the Braden Morning News. Because of the Maritime Minister's report, they followed the transportation route and found traces of the three magic cannon prototypes.

"The evidence is conclusive, and Hans and I can't evade it."

Prime Minister Sistine must admit that whenever he thinks of the person hiding behind the scenes, he will have a shuddering feeling in his heart. That person knows all his secrets and has the rhythm of events just right. It seems that everything is fine.

Under his control.

Secrets leaked from nowhere, reporter Rod Riosi’s sudden revelations in the Braddon Morning News, fierce accountability from the opposition during the “Prime Minister’s Question Time” in the House of Commons, and rounds of public opinion offensives across the country...

...are extremely precise and sophisticated, hitting his pain points squarely, making him feel caught off guard. He had no time to defend himself, and could only let the turbulent waves hit him layer by layer until he was beaten to death on the rocks on the shore.

"Then how do you want me to help you?" asked the archbishop on the other side of the barrier.

After hearing this, Prime Minister Sistine couldn't wait to say: "As long as you agree to explain in public, the purpose of the Prime Minister and Major General Hans transporting the magic cannon across the strait is out of the instruction of the Church of Light and is as a weapon of light."

The duty of believers of the goddess is not to collaborate with the enemy and treason without authorization, so they have no reason to punish us.

"In this way, I can still remain in the position of Prime Minister. If the church needs anything in the future, such as amending the tax bill or suppressing the Mage Tower, it will be much easier to handle it."

"Are you making terms with me?" Archbishop Nerga asked.

"No," the Prime Minister said hurriedly, "I am just discussing a mutually beneficial and win-win plan with you, and I hope to get your agreement."

"Sistine, do you think you are still qualified to negotiate terms with me after you messed up things?" Archbishop Nerga raised his voice slightly, "You know how much damage your negligence has caused to the Church of Light?

?”

"I...I'm sorry...but I can atone for my sins..."

"Atoning for your sins, oh, atoneing for your sins again," Archbishop Nerga sneered, "If it hadn't been for my support at the beginning, you would still be a loser who screams in the House of Commons every day. Instead of wasting my energy on your behalf in public,

If you want to excuse yourself, why not find a more obedient and handy tool and let him do your work, maybe he can do it better than you."

"I can do it well too..."

"Do you think I will still believe your lies, Mr. Prime Minister?" Archbishop Nerga said in a sharp tone, "I have given you the opportunity, but you did not seize it.

"So, leave. Don't expect me to help you. If you confess your sins, Her Majesty the Queen may have mercy and allow you to die a more pleasant death."

"But you said before that we are allies, and allies should be"

"Allies?" Archbishop Nerga chuckled and said coldly, "Allies are nothing."

…………

In the next few minutes, the Sistine Prime Minister walked out of the dark and narrow confessional and left Hagia Sophia in despair.

The sun is shining brightly today, but the Prime Minister is heartbroken.

If his mood had been on the verge of collapse in recent days, then Archbishop Nerga's words had completely cut off the last glimmer of hope in his heart.

He never expected that Archbishop Nerga, who had always been amiable and had provided him with a lot of help, would actually say something like that.

He's finished.

He is alone and helpless.

He had no choice but to raise his hands and surrender.

With this thought in mind, he boarded the carriage in a daze.

"Mr. Sistine, where are you going?" the coachman asked expressionlessly.

Don't you even call me "Prime Minister"?

Prime Minister Sistine glanced at the coachman and said bitterly:

"Go to the palace."

He didn't know how many votes of no confidence those in the New Party had given him in recent times.

But that doesn't matter.

it's all over.

He planned to hand over his Prime Minister's seal to the Queen and resign from this damned position.

As for whether he will die or live in the future, just leave it to fate.

However, just as the carriage turned the corner, Prime Minister Sistine suddenly realized a serious problem:

While I was involved in transporting the magic cannon, I learned a lot of the secrets of the Church of Light. Archbishop Aknelga is so ruthless, isn't he afraid that I will leak these secrets out of anger?
