Chapter 386 The Russian Fleet Attacks

Sevastopol is located at the southwestern end of the Crimean Peninsula, 450 kilometers away from Istanbul. Due to its excellent unfreezing port characteristics, it has been a strategic location around the Black Sea region since ancient times. In 1783, Russia annexed the Crimean Khanate, which belongs to the Ottoman Empire, and used this place as their most important strategic fulcrum for the "warm ocean" to the south. To this day, Sevastopol has evolved into an impregnable fortress military port in this era of social Darwinism; and all the main ships of the Russian Black Sea Fleet are stationed in it, and are ready to capture the "Tsargrad" they have coveted for a thousand years.

However, as the giant wheel slowly entered the second decade of the 20th century, the offensive and defensive situation on the Black Sea quietly underwent fundamental changes.

Due to the heavy loss of Russia's vitality in the Russian-Japanese War, they were unable to respond to the Turkish military expansion plan as soon as possible: When the Ottoman Empire ordered a dreadnought from Germany in 1908, Russia, which was far from out of the shadow of the Russo-Japanese War, had no capital to develop dreadnoughts in the Black Sea in terms of financial and technicality, and could only work hard to complete the construction of two Evstafi-class former dreadnoughts that started construction in 1903 to deal with it. This class of ships with a displacement of 12,840 tons was obviously unable to compete with the dreadnoughts at all.

Although the backward Russians then chased after and placed three super-dreadnoughts expansion orders for the Black Sea Fleet in 1911; until now, the "Mr. Maria" with the fastest construction period will take half a year to launch. With the Russian shipbuilding speed, this class has a standard displacement of 22,600 tons and equipped with 8 356mm heavy artillery super-defying, if they want to complete the assembly and form combat effectiveness, they have to wait at least until the end of 1915. At present, the scale of the Russian Black Sea Fleet is extremely shabby: they rely only on five front dreadnoughts to barely maintain their facades. Among them, the "Three Saints" and "Rostislav" are products of the era of ironclad ships. They are overwhelmingly slaughtered in front of the dreadnought!

It is precisely because of this that the Turkish captain on the Heiding dared to follow Sultan Selim to the periphery of the Russian port. What made him a little relieved was that the Germans were not completely crazy: they stopped about 24 kilometers away from the port and did not go further. According to information from the Allies, the most powerful shore gun in the Russian Sevastopol Fortress was two British 305mm L45MarkX type guns; and even if the artillery on the Liurik battle patrol increased its elevation angle on the shore, 24 kilometers was enough to ensure that they were outside the range of this gun!

The sea breeze was inspiring, and the battle flag rolled up; with the deviation of the servo direction, the huge hull of Sultan Selim drew an arc on the sea surface, causing the hull to suddenly cross. The four huge main turrets began to rotate slowly, their muzzles were raised, and finally they all aimed at the distant coast. Due to the intervention of Qing and Ying, the main guns of German battleships all had excellent elevation angles; the elevation angle of the main gun of Sultan Selim reached 30 degrees, and at a 20-degree elevation angle, it could project the shells to a place 23.3 kilometers away, and this bombardment on the opposite shore was no problem.

Just after 7 o'clock in the morning, a roar of thunder that resounded through the sky suddenly exploded on the sea. The four turrets of Anna, Betha, Catherine, and Dora each gushed out a ball of orange-red flame that was larger than the entire width of the ship. The huge impact air wave caused layers of white fish-scale water waves to ripple. Four high-explosive bombs weighing up to 600kg roared through the air at a speed of 815m/s, roaring wildly in the sky, and then leaped in the air for about a minute, and then slammed on the coast with a strong fury. The explosive power of this shell with 40kg of strong explosives was second only to the high-explosive bombs launched by the 420mm giant "Belta" among the existing weapons of the German army. Its momentum was like a gust of turmoil, and the tsunami collapsed!

One and a half months after the war started, the German 350mm SKL45 naval gun roared to the enemy country for the first time!

Red rainbows rose from the Sultan Selim and ran straight through the green void; then whistled like a meteor fire rain, and burst out blood-colored clouds hundreds of meters high at the landing point. The sky and the earth were shaking. Although the 350mm shell production line introduced by Turkey to Germany as a whole had not been put into use, the Sultan Selim only fired a round of volleys every ten minutes in order to save shells; however, even so, the Russians dozens of kilometers away were still stunned by the sudden sky thunder and cannon fire. With the access to the artillery fire, all the earth and rocks were broken and exploded, and the fiery red flames rolled and rolled, covering the explosion point in a sea of fire.

Faced with this situation, the Russian fortress security commander was shocked and angry. Half an hour ago, he was still enjoying a sexual life in his mistress's bed, but the violent explosion instantly extinguished his original flame like a basin of cold water. When he rushed into the headquarters in disorganized clothes, the port had become riddled with holes and a sea of fire under the baptism of dozens of large-caliber high-explosion bombs from the enemy. According to the observation report sent by the observation soldiers, the enemy warships that were bombarded were very far away from the coast, and their heavy shore artillery could not respond normally!

As he was anxious and angry, a violent explosion like a rocking mountain came from the port. The flames and clouds burst into layers, and the red and beautiful lights were dazzling. The Russian commander was shocked and immediately judged the identity of the visitor. Such a powerful explosion was more than twice as fierce as his own 305mm shore defense cannon. There was only one ship that could have such heavy artillery on the Black Sea, which was the Turkish Sultan Selim. Even though the Russians had guessed the camp of the coming enemy, they were still filled with hatred and anger: the great and glorious Russian military port was bombarded by the reptile-like European sick man Turks. Aren’t they afraid of angering the brave and fierce Slavs and carrying out a devastating war on them?

Since his shore artillery could not reach the enemy, the Russian Fortress Guard Commander immediately contacted the commander of the Black Sea Fleet and asked him to lead a warship to fight the enemy and drive away the Turkish fleet that was showing off his power outside his port. After receiving this call, General Kaznov, the commander of the Russian Black Sea Fleet, was extremely distressed: his fleet is currently in an embarrassing stage of being in trouble, and he is completely unable to compete with the Turkish fleet with super fearless ships on the main ship. On the auxiliary ship, the latest Black Sea Fleet is among the latest in the Black Sea Fleet.

None of the nine "Bestokoyni" class destroyers have been completed. At present, all he can rely on is an old torpedo boat that was put into service before 1905. These guys not only have slow speeds, but their torpedo weapons relying on for survival are also far behind the times. However, Kaznov had no choice: if he chose to hide in the port like this and let the Turkish naval guns humiliate the Sevastopol port, he, the commander of the Black Sea Fleet, would no longer have to be the commander of the Black Sea Fleet!

With Kaznov's order, the Russian Black Sea Fleet ships anchored in the military port immediately entered the state of war: the Russian sailors ran out of the barracks with unprecedented efficiency, began to fire the warships, and improved a series of preparations before the attack. In the last war against Japan, Russian soldiers carried a pile of half-drink vodka bottles and staggered to the mobilization destination with alcohol. As a result, the officers spent an extra week in order to reorganize the drunken drunks into a warable army. In order not to repeat the mistakes of the last war, Russia issued a ban on alcohol at the beginning of the war, and finally implemented the decree throughout the country. However, except for the unique rashness of slapping the thighs at the end of the Romanov dynasty, nothing else could be reflected.

In Russia, alcohol is a government-owned industry, and its annual income accounts for one-third of the government's annual income (which shows how much Russians love alcohol...). This order from the Russian government undoubtedly cut off all this income. As we all know, governments engaged in wars all tried to impose various taxes to increase their income, and Russia gave up the main source of national finance during the war, which was unprecedented in history. In contrast, the rapid response advantage brought by the prohibition was undoubtedly far from worth the loss in this war against national strength!

Two and a half hours later, the Russian Black Sea Fleet, which had completed the fire, set sail and rushed towards the vicious Turkish warships more than 20 kilometers away. In order to successfully repel the Turkish fleet, Kaznov ordered all the main battleships to come out in full swing, and strive to crush the enemy with their numerical advantage. The old and handsome dreadnoughts and protective cruisers spewed out thick black smoke, and even went to the single level.

Driven by the duplex steam engine, he went to the battlefield with a groan; the appearance, which was completely out of touch with the times, made people feel a little sympathy for these old ships. Kaznov no longer had any hope for the showdown between the main battleships. He only hoped that his former dreadnought and protective cruiser could suppress the fire of the enemy's main battleships, thus creating an opportunity for one blow to defeat the enemy for his 16 torpedo boats.

Seeing a lot of gray dots appearing on the Northeast Sea level, thick black smoke was floating in the sky above, Ecoman, who was in charge of the Sultan Selim, couldn't help but smile. He slowly put down the telescope in his hand and shouted to a messenger next to him: "Send a signal to the Turks and let them cooperate with us to fight this first naval battle!"
