Singing Wang Erxiao

[Remembrance] Wang Erxiao "Singing Second Little Cowherd"

In Gunlonggou, Saibei Township, Pingshan, Hebei Province, Yan Erxiao’s childhood partner, told the story of Yan Erxiao. In the winter of 1939, the Jinchaji Daily entered our village. At this time, the enthusiasm of the people in our village to fight against Japan was even higher, and even the children formed a children’s group and stood guard at the roadside at the entrance of the village. Because the second primary school had prestige among children, they were elected as the leader of the children’s group.

On the morning of September 16, 1941, Erxiao and I were grazing cattle in the Sandaohei. Suddenly, we found a signal from the hill not far away, and the enemy came to us. Erxiao hurriedly said to me, "Go to the newspaper to deliver the letter." I asked, "Second brother, where are you?... "Don't worry about me!" After that, he drove the cattle into the valley.

I ran to the newspaper in one breath and told everyone that the Japanese were coming. After receiving the information, everyone quickly went into the cave to hide. After sending the letter, I ran to the edge of the cliff opposite.

Hidden it. After a while, I saw a group of Japanese soldiers coming up from the back of the sharp shark, one of whom was holding the back of the second little boy with a bayonet. I saw Erxiao turn left, turn right, go up the mountain ridge, and go down the mountain ridge. He deliberately led the enemy in circles and delayed time.

Erxiao led the enemy from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., exhausted the enemy. When the sun was about to set, he led the enemy to the top of Erdaoquan Mountain. When the Japanese were observing the terrain, Erxiao suddenly rushed towards a Japanese standing by the cliff. After a Japanese next to him discovered it, he stabbed Erxiao in the chest with a bayonet.

On the second day after the second primary school died, a reporter from the Northwest Battlefield Service Team (I later learned that his name was Fang Bing) found me to interview the deeds about the second primary school. A month later, a comrade named Zheng from the newspaper came to us and taught us to sing a nursery rhyme: "The cow is still eating grass on the hillside, but the cowherds are gone, it is not because of his playing and throwing the cows, but Wang Erxiao, the child who herded the cows..."

We said that the child who grazed the cattle was obviously Yan Erxiao, so how did he compile it into Wang Erxiao? Comrade Zheng explained to us that children, this is a musical work and it needs to be adapted. Besides, aren’t you called Erxiao “King of Children”? So he called him “King of Children – Second Primary School”.

The enemy swept into a ravine,

The second little boy walked in front of him obediently.

Bring the enemy into our ambush circle,

Guns and cannons rang out everywhere,

Only then did the enemy realize that he was deceived.

The enemy picked the second little boy at the tip of the gun.
