Chapter 1604: A nation that is good at catching up

Although William did not have any official Beijing to visit China, the public's attention was no less than that of a state visit by foreign leaders.

The next day, Li Mu took William to visit Taobao, as well as Taobao Logistics' warehousing center and logistics distribution center in Yanjing.

Although William was shocked, he was Taobao's warehousing center and logistics distribution center.

During this period, Senior Brother Liu devoted all his energy to the optimization and improvement of the logistics system. Now, the fleet size of Taobao Logistics, belly cargo warehouse resources, and automatic sorting systems across the country are growing rapidly.

In addition, Taobao's business is developing rapidly and domestic online shopping users are increasing. Therefore, the entire Taobao logistics has a huge order volume, one-third of which is self-operated or used Taobao warehouse to ship, and the remaining two-thirds are shipped by c2c sellers.

The huge number of order support has given strong support to the development of Taobao logistics. Therefore, Brother Liu's warehousing center is constantly expanded and the distribution center is also constantly expanded. Some time ago, three additional stages were added to Germany, with a total of 15 orders with automatic sorting systems, and will be all placed in cities in Guangdong, Zhejiang and Shanghai in the future.

When William came to the sorting center of Yanjing distribution center, he was completely stunned by the modern logistics scene in front of him.

A large number of packages are unpacked here, sorted and then repackaged. Then, with the help of the logistics management system developed by Muye Technology for Taobao Logistics, each included status is recorded and updated in real time.

Seeing countless packages passing through the belt conveyor quickly, William said to Li Mu in amazement: "I feel like I have been in more than ten years, and I always feel that such an advanced and efficient logistics method is not a product of this era at all..."

Li Mu smiled and said, "The equipment you see is mostly produced in Germany. Germany has already been available before 2000. It is actually not a very great thing. The main reason why it has not been promoted globally is that in most countries, the current demand for small-piece logistics capacity is not that large, and the requirements for efficiency are not so high. The most important reason why we use such equipment and develop automation to the extreme is that we have too much demand for small-piece logistics capacity and too high efficiency requirements, which are so large that we have to exceed any country in the world."

Li Mu's words are not a silence. Taobao Logistics now carries the daily online shopping transportation of tens of millions of online shopping users in China. The order volume is basically close to the status of Taobao from 2008 to 2010. This data is very terrible. It means that the speed of demand growth has been ahead of five or six years, which forces the way to solve demand to be solved five or six years in advance.

Judging from the current global e-commerce retail market, no country can compare with Taobao. Apart from China, the largest online retail market is the United States, but the order volume is not as high as that of China.

Moreover, there is something very strange about American e-commerce, that is, whether it is the platform, seller or buyer, the requirements for logistics efficiency are very Buddhist.

Even more than ten years later, the logistics efficiency of China's e-commerce is far ahead of the world. Logistics companies like Shunfeng can already deliver 24 hours a day between most cities in the country. If this efficiency is placed in the United States, it is simply unimaginable, and Europeans will be even more incomprehensible.

Sure enough, William was a little ununderstood by Li Mu's explanation and asked: "Mr. Li, is the efficiency of this small logistics that is so important? China is so big, I think there is actually no big difference between two-day delivery and four-day delivery. However, in order to achieve two-day delivery, a lot of money and manpower and material resources are needed, which will cause a huge waste of resources, right?"

Li Mu smiled and said: "Huaxia is a country with rapid development. Do you know what countries with rapid development are most afraid of wasting?"

William asked tentatively: "Resources? Money? Or labor?"

"None are not." Li Mu shook his head and smiled, "It's time."

After saying that, Li Mu said: "Look, Japan, Germany and France have their own high-speed railway technology. Ordinary trains are only about 100 kilometers per hour, but high-speed railways can reach more than 200 or even 300 kilometers per hour. When the train drives more than 200 kilometers, the air resistance will increase the additional energy consumption. For example, it is also a distance of 500 kilometers. Ordinary railways take five hours, but the energy consumption is only one third of that of high-speed railways. However, high-speed railways only take one hour and forty minutes, and the energy consumption is three times that of ordinary railways. However, I believe the latter is obviously more suitable for China in the future, because we have to grab time."

William nodded in a slight sense of understanding, but in fact, he could not understand Li Mu's extreme pursuit of efficiency.

The pace of life of Europeans is far less than that of Yanjing, China, and Europe's rhythmic requirements for many infrastructure or services are far less than that of Li Mu. Li Mu's starting point for building Taobao logistics is not dare to say that he is ahead of the world in scale, but at least he is ahead of the world in efficiency. There is no logistics company in the world that can compete with Taobao logistics for efficiency.

Li Mu told William: "William, do you know why the United States created the Internet, but only China can compete with them on the same stage, while Europe, which is equally developed in economy, and Japan and South Korea, have not made any achievements on the Internet stage?"

William shook his head gently: "To be honest, Mr. Li, I don't know much about the Internet, so I can't quite understand what you said."

Li Mu smiled and said, "It doesn't matter, let me tell you, in the past two hundred years of modern times, Chinese people have become accustomed to catching up in their work because of the backwardness of their country. Western countries have spent hundreds of years laying the industrial revolution. China has only spent a few decades. Although the overall process of modernization construction is still different from that of the West, we have spent forty or fifty years to catch up with the gap of more than a hundred years in the West, and this gap is still narrowing. This is precisely due to our national characteristics of 'chasing'."

Speaking of this, Li Mu sighed: "Look at our Internet, it only started at the end of the last century, but the whole step is that flowers bloom. A large number of young people who have been to the West choose to return to China to start a business, and learn from it in the business model pioneered by the West. Take myself as an example. If I don't have an extreme pursuit of efficiency, then Muye Technology may only have one yy, and it is being pressed by Microsoft's msn, and Taobao may also be hit by Amazon and ebay left and right, so we must think about change and quickly find a breakthrough to rush and attack. This is why, we can enter the international stage of the Internet industry after the United States."

In the previous life, China was the only country that truly followed the United States to seize the tide of Internet rise.

All of Europe, Japan and South Korea have perfectly missed the huge opportunity for the rise of the Internet. On the one hand, this is due to their obedience and acceptance of the US Internet market, and on the other hand, it is due to their own neglect of efficiency.

The first generation of Internet people in China is indeed very amazing. From the first day they came into contact with the Internet, they worked hard to start a business. In a few years, they completed the path that other countries had completed in more than ten years. Even without Li Mu, a large number of great people would emerge in the Internet of China, a large number of novel product models emerged, and a large number of large companies that went public in the United States and Hong Kong.

Just like the China High-speed Railway, from the completion of the first high-speed railway to the total mileage of the high-speed railway exceeds the sum of other countries around the world, China has not yet spent ten years. This is the pinnacle of the national "chasing" skill.

Afterwards, Li Mu took William to visit the storage center next to the distribution center. The huge storage center once again gave William a strong shock.

Nowadays, Taobao warehouses can only be informatized, but cannot be automated. However, even so, the combined shelves that are more than ten meters high and are often seven or eight layers still make William stunned.

The operating mode adopted by Taobao warehousing is the use of in-store software and modular shelf management.

For example, a single warehouse has a total of 20 shelves from a to t. Each shelf is divided into 8 layers in vertical direction and 20 grids in horizontal direction. Each grid has the same volume and size, and each grid stores products of the same type or brand.

In this way, the goods have clear coordinate information on the shelf. For example, edible oil is in a515, a represents a row of shelves, 5 represents five layers, and 15 represents the 15th grid.

The information of a515 is recorded in the warehouse entry and exit software. When there is a edible oil warehouse in the warehouse, the system will instruct the warehouser to enter the warehouse to enter the warehouse into the warehouse. When there is an order that requires the edible oil to be released from the warehouse, the system will also instruct the warehouser to pick up the goods at a515.

If it is a fully automated warehousing, the goods can be stored in the a515 or picked up from the a515, which can be completed automatically. However, at this stage, there is no automation equipment in the world that can fully meet Taobao's logistics needs. Germany is also in the trial production stage, so the current warehousing and exiting is still semi-automated.

The so-called semi-automation means that there is a track in the middle of each two shelves, one in front and one behind, and two elevators are paired with two elevators. For example, there is a track in the a and b shelves, and there is a lift at each end, one at the same time, one at the 1-10 grid and the other at 11-20 grids. Each elevator can lift from one floor to eight floors.

The elevator is manually operated. When the a515 is picked up, the driver of the second rear lift directly enters the position of a515, and the elevator will rise to the height of the fifth floor and come to the front of 15 grids. After precise positioning, the pickup will be manually completed.

However, even if the full automation has not been achieved, this efficiency is already amazingly high. A large number of elevators run back and forth on the track, up and down, take out various goods, and then transport them to conveyor belts at both ends of the shelf, and then other staff members carry out order packaging and sorting. The efficiency is much higher than pure manual work.

William stood under the huge lift, watching the operator keep busy, and exclaimed: "The scene in front of him seems to be watching a science fiction movie, which is incredible..."
