Chapter 5 Reasons

"The second law of thermodynamics: It is impossible to transfer heat from a low-temperature object to a high-temperature object without any other impact, or it is impossible to take heat from a single heat source to completely convert it into useful work without other impacts, or the micro-increment of entropy during irreversible thermal processes is always greater than zero."

Roland copied this law neatly on paper - using the words of this world. At first glance, it looked a bit like earthworm text, and he really couldn't understand how the locals learned such cumbersome text.

If we talk about which of the many laws of physics is the most boring, Roland will definitely choose the second law of thermodynamics. It tells everyone that the heat in this world will always pass from high to low, disorder is replacing order, and entropy is constantly increasing. In the end, everyone will return to nothingness and the universe will become dead silent.

And this world has been freed from the trouble of entropy increase, and magic can be created out of nothing, which is even greater than the invention of a perpetual motion machine! The power of the devil? Roland scoffed at this. They did not realize the essence of this power at all. To put it more than anything, it can even change the entire universe.

Of course, now, we can start by changing the border town.

Roland hummed a little tune, tore off the note and entered the fireplace. Seeing it turned into ashes in the fire, he felt the pleasure of annihilation of the cage.

The assistant minister was confused when he looked at the fourth prince's inexplicable actions. Fortunately, the other party had always been like this and did nothing in his work. He could see that the prince was in a good mood.

"It's done, the "witch" was hanged at noon," Barov reported.

"Well, no one should see anything?" Roland lightly pointed his pen tip, "Anyway, he's wearing a headband."

In order not to let the Holy See and the Witch Co-Assistance Association come to the door, Roland ordered the Warden to find a death row prisoner of similar shape from the dungeon to replace Anna, and all except the Chief Knight and the assistant minister gave 20 Golden Dragon as a hush fee. This was an extremely generous income for them.

Barov also suggested whether to shut up witnesses forever, but Roland rejected it. He knew that these secrets would not be kept for too long, but it didn't matter. Instead, he hoped that someone could spread the news - as long as it was not now. It would be a matter of time before the church turned against him. No one could tolerate those idiots wasting resources like this! When other witches knew that there was a small town on the border of the kingdom that allowed them to live freely and even gave them generous treatment, what would the witches think?

No matter which era, talent is the most important.

"Then let it be," Roland ordered, "Next, you will share the trade, taxes and necessary expenses for the Border Town for the past year, and the workshops, iron, textile, pottery and other things, and count the quantity and scale."

"It will take three days to sort out these records, but..." Barov nodded first, then looked like he was reluctant to speak.

"What else?" Roland knew that the time was coming to test his verbal ability. Everything he did yesterday would always have questions. A playboy is a playboy, and a bad personality does not mean that there is a pitfall in his mind. In the eyes of the ministers and assistants, the secret witch is simply an enemy of the world.

"Your Highness, I don't understand..." Barov carefully said, "Although you used to be a fool, you were all harmless, but... why did you take such a great risk to save a witch? Although hunting them was a law set by the church, your father, His Majesty Wimbledon, also agreed with it."

Roland thought for a while and asked back, "Do you think Border Town is a good place?"

"Uh, this..." Although he didn't quite understand how this sentence was related to his own question, Barov still answered truthfully, "It's not good."

"It's very bad. Compared to Jinsui City and Bishui Port, how likely do you think I'm better than those brothers and sisters?"

"..." The assistant minister opened his mouth and did not answer.

"Almost zero. So I can only change one way," Roland watched as the other party fell into the trap he set step by step, "a way to impress his father."

He did not start from the perspective of whether a witch was considered an evil person, because that would have little effect - Barov had been an assistant to the Finance Minister for twenty years and was considered a qualified politician. For politicians, interests are more convincing than good and evil. In addition, taking the emotional route is not suitable for him. Roland recalled what the four princes did before and found that he could not be considered a kind and orderly camp.

Therefore, he chose the eternal conflict between secular royal power and religious theocracy as the entry point. The increasing expansion of the power of the Holy See has become a thorn in the heart of Wimbledon III. The church claims that the world operates according to God's will, and the Pope is the spokesperson of God. If the people find that what he says is not the truth, it will be full of loopholes, and the dominance of religion will be greatly shaken.

It is difficult to convince the other party by directly using the statement that "the witch is not the evil one, so I want to save them". If it is replaced by "the witch is not the evil one, I can use it to attack the church", it can easily lead Barov to his preset conclusion.

"No matter how prosperous my brothers and sisters govern the territory, they are only in the church's pocket. They are already hyping up the divine right of the king. If only those who are crowned by the Pope can be regarded as king of France, then are the actual rulers of this land still us?" Roland paused, "and my father could see in me such a hope: a kingdom without the control of the Holy See, and the royal family enjoys all rights. Then his choice is clear."

It is much easier to accept that changing "being enemies with the whole world" to "being enemies with the church only" - not to mention that Barov himself is on the side of the royal family.

"Same, if he realizes that these strange abilities will be the basis for leveraging the church, the hunting order is just a joke. On one hand, there is no possibility, and on the other hand, the possibility is not zero, do you think I deserve this risk?" Roland stared at the assistant minister and said word by word, "Don't doubt my decision, Barov. You have been an assistant minister for twenty years, right? If I could be Wimbledon IV, your assistant would be removed. Or go further, like... the hand of the king?"

...

Looking at Barov's back as he left, Roland breathed a light sigh. It was normal that he did not value his promises too much. Even Roland himself had never believed that the arrogant plan he had just made could be realized. But that was not important at all. The key was to make Barov believe that he did think so - a simple plan that a playboy could think of not only fits the mentality of the fourth prince hating the church, but also paves the way for recruiting more witches in the future.

As for their real thoughts? Even if they know, they can't understand them.

Roland called the maid, "Call Miss Anna to see me."
