Chapter 2108 2108 The first year of awards

March 21, 1999, was destined to be a sleepless night. Too many things happened on this night, so people had no way to clarify their ideas. They had to calm down and slowly recall the countless gorgeous moments.

Hugo quickly walked into the Sunset Tower Hotel, looked around, but did not see Charlize. Leonardo stayed not far from the entrance. Seeing Hugo coming in, he quickly came up and pushed Hugo's waist with his elbow with a smile, "How is it? It's all clear?"

Hugo's expression was also a little confused, "That's right." He said it clearly, but he didn't know how the reporters would react.

Leonardo laughed loudly when he saw Hugo's appearance, with a gloating expression, but he still put his shoulder on Hugo and patted his chest, "Don't worry, the reporters are just those tricks. Are you familiar with them now? So, there is nothing to worry about."

Hugo let out a long sigh, "That's right." Only then did he feel relaxed.

"Charlize, Sandra and the others went to find Nicole, and a group of women were talking about tonight's dress..." Leonardo rolled his eyes, his face full of disgust and rejection with "Sir," "Let's go, let's go and find Steven. He came here to ask you just now, it seems that he had something to look for you."

When they saw Steven, David Geffen and Jeffrey Carsonberg were all beside him. Before Hugo could react, the three of them gave Hugo a warm hug, which made Hugo confused, "Hey, hey, what's wrong? Do you all owe me money?" Hugo's words made the three of them laugh.

However, they did not refute Hugo's words, but exchanged glances. Finally, Steven took the initiative to speak, "Of course we owe you money, the 60 million funds of the 'Beautiful Mind' have not been handed over to you yet, right?" This made Hugo suddenly realize, nodded with a "taken for granted" expression. Steven continued, "To be honest, I really have to thank you this time. Without your reminder, maybe..." Steven said halfway, but Hugo could vaguely feel what he was saying. Sure enough, Steven's subsequent words confirmed Hugo's guess, "So, what do you think is going on? How do you know this...uh..."

"Awards season." David took over Steven's topic, and then saw Jeffrey nodding seriously. Leonardo stood beside him with a calm look on his face.

Hugo raised his eyebrows and turned around and found the Weinstein brothers among the crowd. They had returned to normal now, with a polite smile on their faces and had a great conversation with others. However, they did not see Gwyneth's figure beside them, and they didn't know where they were going.

"Why do you think that a movie like Shakespeare' can lead all works in the nomination stage?" Hugo had been prepared for today's situation, so he was not panicked at all. He said with a smile, "Because the Oscars are an authoritative and professional award ceremony, they are also the most successful business event in the world..." After Hugo finished his words, Steven wanted to refute Hugo, but Hugo shook his head, "No, you know what I'm saying is right. The reason why the Oscars are so high is because commercial promotion is done well; similarly, the reason why the Oscars are so important is because the additional commercial value is difficult to calculate. If not, why is the most famous award ceremony in the world not the Berlin Film Festival or the Venetian Film Festival, why major film companies do not participate in the Sundance Film Festival or the Independent Spirit Award, or even the Golden Globe Award... but the Oscars."

Hugo's words are a bit one-sided, because Oscar's current status is the result of the right time, place, and people. The precipitation of time has pushed Oscar to its current position. But no one can deny Hugo's words because this is a fact.

Oscars is a game, and it has been a game since its establishment. However, after "Great White Jaws", the rules of this game began to become complicated; after "Terminator 2", the evolution of this game has reached a new level; after "Titanic", the rules of the game have quietly changed again.

"Of course, for filmmakers, the Oscar Little Golden Man represents affirmation, just like the Director's Union Award and Screenwriter's Union Award. This is an affirmation of authoritative and professional opinions. However, businessmen always have different perspectives on problems, right?" Hugo's simple sentence uncovered all the problems.

Why did the first year of the awards season appear at the end of 1998, not 1997 or 1999? Because the success of "Independence Day" laid the foundation, and the glory of "Titanic" promoted the arrival of the blockbuster era, Wall Street's attention to Hollywood is increasing day by day; because 1998 was a year when the balance between commercial and artistic films appeared inclined, and with the increasing maturity of computer special effects, commercial films are becoming the mainstream of Hollywood step by step; because just one year ago, Oscar chose "Titanic" as the best film, and gave affirmation from the official standpoint...

Behind the first year of the awards season is the inevitability of historical development.

What makes the Weinstein brothers outstanding is their brilliant lotus and public relations skills; but what makes them even better is their assessment of the situation and their grasp of the historical development context.

Steven, David and Jeffrey were all in deep thought. These three bigwigs obviously knew how earth-shaking news was hidden behind Hugo's words. Especially in the awards season that just ended, if Hugo hadn't had Hugo's reminder, perhaps the ending of the Oscar tonight would have been completely different. Hidden behind the victory of "Save Private Ryan", it was the fierce momentum of "Shapespeare's Love History". Thirteen nominations led the nomination stage was definitely not accidental.

Leonardo was not interested in these company-level and industrial-level things at this time. He was almost asleep when he stood beside him. If Hugo hadn't been staying here, he would have made excuses to sneak away. Leonardo secretly winked at Hugo, as if saying, "Let's go and have a drink..."

Hugo actually didn't plan to continue discussing it, because his understanding of these issues was very limited, and it was just the historical development context. If he really wanted to tell him what he said, he was like squeezing toothpaste and couldn't squeeze out anything for a long time. Maybe the three old foxes would see the mistake.

Hugo gave Leonardo a look, opened his mouth and wanted to make an excuse to leave, and then saw David's smile, "Hugo, you are such a very interesting person." This sentence immediately added a hint of embarrassment to Hugo's smile, "If you are not interested in company management or other things, you can always talk about the point and have an amazing understanding of the development of the industry... But if you know these things well, many times you are like a layman, completely confused."

Hugo's heart skipped a beat. David was indeed keen. He could only talk about his true face after seeing through his true face. Just as Hugo was thinking about how to respond to David's words, Leonardo, who was standing next to him, said with a smile, "So, he just looks like a fool, but in fact he is very smart. Is this what he meant?"

A great wisdom is like foolishness, which is probably such an adjective.

Jeffrey nodded slightly, "So so many people fell into trouble in front of Hugo, aren't they? I'm very glad that we are not enemies."

Hugo's cheeks were hot, but he still tried to calmly make fun of him, "You discuss my IQ in person, are you sure I can understand?" This made several people chuckled, "But David was right, I actually just know some basics. Every time he said something, the brainstorms were all your own credit and had nothing to do with me. It can be seen that you need some space to think about the awards season, so Leo and I can't interfere, so let's find a glass of champagne first."

Steven and the other three did not force Hugo to keep. They all knew that Hugo was really not good at these things, so they teased Hugo a few more words and let him and Leonardo leave. Watching Hugo leave, Jeffrey sighed, "Actually he is the real smart person."

David chuckled, "So he has reached a height that no one else can reach. At least, he is purer than us and not as greedy as us." True intelligence is actually knowing how to be content, when should you have ambition, and when should you stop. This is a problem that a person cannot solve in his life.

"Oh, I forgot to talk to Hugo about the 'beautiful life'." Steven smashed his mouth in annoyance. Obviously, his attention was completely attracted by the awards season just now, and he actually forgot about it.

David seemed not anxious at all, "Don't worry, Hugo knows better than us. Have you read the script he completed? That's really..." David raised his eyebrows, trying to find a suitable word, and after drinking a sip of champagne, he sighed, "genius."

Steven didn't say anything, but just lit his chin slightly, and then he heard the voice of Jeffrey next to him, "Great again, he is a member of DreamWorks..." The smile on the corner of Steven's mouth gently outlined.

Hugo naturally didn't know how the three DreamWorks' giants were talking about themselves behind their backs. He and Leonardo didn't go far, and then they saw Gwyneth standing in the corner with a gloomy look, making people shudder, looking like a ghost in a horror movie, causing a thin layer of goose bumps to rise behind them. However, before Hugo could react to Gwyneth in any form, a figure blocked Hugo and showed a bright smile, "Hey, Hugo!"

It's Heath Ledger.
