Chapter 6 Crow's Nest Town

The chaotic buildings outside the station were rampant. When you walked out of the station, you were muddy alleys. The gas street lights flashed and disappeared, and the air was filled with the smell of waste gas from factory chimneys.

The Chau Nest Town does not look like the pastoral town commonly found in the empire. The dark and cramped roads, the gray sky, and the roads seem to be soaked in mud, and it looks wet and dirty, and it looks more like a village fort from the late medieval period.

"Young Master...! Are we really going to go in!?"

Lilulu winces, and the ghost story sounds absurd, but the tragic fate of the first three tenants in this haunted house is true.

Faust was quietly flirting with the local magazine. He knew from the beginning that the cheap foreign house rented by Maguire's family was a haunted house. He shouted on the train just to get one or two useful news.

It seems that the rumors about the haunted house are true...

“Rent must be bargained.”

Faust knocked on the gate of the haunted house of Maguire's house without changing his face. It was night, and the moon was hanging in the sky. Although there were no dark clouds, the sky also looked particularly gray due to the influence of factory exhaust gas.

The two-story mansion is built with brick and stone, which is more sturdy and safer than the wooden house. All windows on the first and second floors are protected by solid iron fences, and it seems that it is impossible to sneak in without destruction.

Within a few seconds, a woman with long-haired brown hair in her thirties opened the door. She looked very haggard, with drooping bags in her eyes, dull skin, and dark circles. Her sunken cheeks reminded Lilulu of some witches in ghost stories.

It is very popular among imperial ladies to curl their hair, and then leave two bunches of slightly curly long hair on the forehead or cheeks. But Maguire retains a simple hairstyle that is convenient for movement, just like Lilulu.

"Miss Maguire?" Faust took the page of the page where the rental information was written in the magazine "Jian Real Estate".

Miss Maguire's face was depressed. When she saw the real estate magazine in Faust's hand, she quickly understood the purpose of the two people in front of the door, and immediately invited them into the house.

"This is an old house... an old house that existed before the empire was unified. You should have heard of it?"

Because each window is reinforced with an iron fence, the lighting is not good, and the oil lamps and fireplaces are also slightly dark. The first floor is the living room, with a portrait of the prime minister hanging above the wardrobe, and a portrait of the Renaissance depicting the Five Sages of Emperors in the Renaissance.

Miss Maguire introduced: "That was Shannon's painting...but it was probably a copy, worth only a few hundred Finneys."

Shannon was a master of the Renaissance. It is said that in addition to being a painter, he was also a skilled sculptor, architect, musician, mathematician, engineer and inventor. Later, people were accustomed to calling the versatile master "Shannon-style scholar."

Under the dim light, the old men in the oil painting were like living people, staring at you. Lilulu felt a little scared in her heart, and her little hands couldn't help but grab the corner of Faust's clothes.

Faust said directly: "I'll go straight to the point-

Miss Maguire, I have learned all the rumors about this house on the way to come. Since so many tenants were scared away in advance, I think this house has been vacant for a long enough time. Instead of keeping the house vacant and bearing the loss of house maintenance costs in vain, why not rent it to me at a cheaper price, right?”

Miss Maguire was a little tired. She should be over thirty years old, but she was named "Miss" after her name, and it seems that she is not married yet.

"Young little gentleman, what should I call you?"

"Faust, Vette von Faust."

"Hello, Mr. Faust." Miss Maguire invited Faust and Lilulu to sit down, and she poured coffee for the two of them again. Faust refused the unhealthy caffeine drink. Lilulu took the teacup with fear, but did not drink it.

Maguire asked: "What is the rent that Mr. Faust is satisfied with?"

The interior decoration of such a brick and stone building is pretty good, and the rent for two marks a month is really cheap. But in Faust's view, it seems too high for a haunted house.

Faust raised his index finger on his right hand: "One mark, no more."

Miss Maguire felt a little helpless at the gentleman who was very particular in front of her, and she smiled:

"Actually, it's okay to rent. My mother left me with a few other real estate inheritances, and my source of living does not depend on this house. As long as someone is willing to rent and can help me manage the house, that's enough."

Miss Maguire's words made Faust feel a little regretful. Since the old lady in her thirties said this, she was unable to ask her for more labor fees to help with the house, which was a loss.

"Since that's the case..." Faust stood up and shook hands with Miss Maguire, "Let's sign a contract."

Lilulu was unhappy about the young master's decision to move into the haunted house so quickly. The dim lights in the house and the smell of dust that had been uninhabited for a long time made Lilulu desperately scared.

Her face turned pale and stressed: "Do we really want to live here? Master, are we really poor to live here?"

Faust nodded mercilessly, Miss Lilulu finally felt ashamed and felt the pain of being strangled by fate in advance.

Miss Maguire was very interested in the interaction between the strange master and servant, and she couldn't help but smile at the words of the two.

Faust also praised: "Miss Maguire looks much better after she smiles."

Before Miss Maguire could answer, another old man with a cane walked in through the gate.

The old man was wearing a dress, collar shirt, a dark blue tie, holding a crutch in one hand and a top hat in the other, dressed in a typical old gentlemanly.

"Father." Miss Maguire seemed a little surprised, "You should be careful of your health."

Old Maguire knocked on the floor with a crutch several times, looking a little unhappy:

"Is this haunted house finally rented out? My body is much tougher than you."

Miss Maguire briefly introduced the irritable father to Faust and Lilulu. She then introduced her and her father's address, and mentioned that if Faust had any problems during his residence, she could go directly to her address to seek help.

Miss Maguire handed the key to Faust again and said:

"This old house uses an old padlock. Its key workmanship is very complicated, only one. Now only a few famous lock shops in the imperial capital can match this old key. Mr. Faust, please keep it safe. If it is lost, it will be very troublesome."

The goddess with seven titles rose from the blood foam of the seven pans: she was the queen wearing a strong and sharp stern, the daughter of the snake, the key, the healer, the murderer, and the oracle priest, but her seventh title was hidden.
