Chapter 31 Ecological Niches

The spire of the Faraday Institute stands tall, with its upper part being typically Gothic and its lower part having Baroque elements.

The shadow of the spire covers the building, making people feel quiet and cool, and also creates a gloomy feeling.

Faust and the other two walked in. The bright red glass windows were covered with dust. The room was very large, but the light was even more gloomy. Each top of the pointed rib vault had four main bones, and the wall skin was peeled off, and dust would rinse and fall down from time to time.

The pointed-ribbed vault links all the internal space with a skeleton voucher as a whole. Each arch base is etched with reliefs of church mythology - most of the reliefs are still as complete as new, but they are also covered with a thick layer of dust.

The large area of sculptures in the hall was not exquisitely crafted. Those crude ghost statues vaguely made Lilulu tighten her neck.

"Master Faust, there seems to be nothing here, so let's go out quickly... Don't disturb any ghosts!"

Faust noticed that the colorful patterns of rose glass windows were painted with small religious paintings, and the light shone through the stained glass windows looked dark and mysterious.

He joked: "The institute that works in engineering has developed so many interior decorations on religious subjects. People who don't know think they are building a church. No wonder the Faraday Institute has become an unfinished building."

The central hall is long and narrow, and the two sides are not very spaced apart, giving people a strong feeling of guiding from the entrance to the altar, as if they slowly step into the deep underworld.

Jiabao lit the candle in his hand: "The light here is too dim, be careful not to trip over."

Second Lieutenant Jiabao noticed some collapsed furniture debris on the ground, and some candlesticks were buried in the dust.

The three of them walked carefully to the depths, and the smell of dust in the air became even stronger. Faust suddenly thought of another thing. He took the candle from Garbo's hand and shone it towards the corner of the roof:

There seemed to be nothing in the corner of the roof, and even the common spider webs in the ruins could not be seen. Faust raised his eyebrows and thoughtful.

There were a few benches on both sides of the central hall that were not decayed. Lilulu sat on it and rested, bit her lips tightly, and no longer dared to continue exploring deeper.

The Faraday Institute's jaw side corridor is a space separated by bundled columns. Many thin columns go straight from the ground to the vault and become ribbed racks. They gather together and embrace them into bundles. The ribbed racks on the top are in a star shape.

There are some sunken roof structures in the dome between the beam columns, and the candlelight cannot be shined, so it is impossible to see what it looks like inside.

Lilulu sat there and didn't want to move, so Faust and Garbo found it in the middle hall - but the middle hall was a spacious space without walls, and you could see it at a glance.

Just a simple look and you can see that there is nothing valuable here.

Jiabao wondered, "Is there anything else to find?"

Lilulu half-lowed her head, pouted and begged quietly, "Can we go out..."

Faust looked to the deepest part of the Faraday Institute. The corridor leading to the inner hall was very narrow, and it was pitch black inside, so the sun could not be exposed to it. It was also impossible to distinguish the size and depth of the space inside.

"Do we still want to go in and look for it?"

Jiabao asked involuntarily that although she was a second lieutenant officer of the Imperial Army and an intern in the Defense Suppression Bureau, she was much better than Faust in terms of official identity.

But after these "two days" investigation, Garbo seemed to have been influenced by Faust, and almost subconsciously took his opinions first.

Faust smiled and said, "No, but I need another help from Lieutenant."

"What's the matter?"

"By your bobcats to do the big things."

Faust pointed to the large suitcase that Garbo carried with him, which contained the disassembled No. 2 Power Armor component.

"Secretary Lieutenant, replace the bobcat and remove the pillars."

While speaking, Faust had pulled out the policeman's swift sword from the cotton and held it tightly in his hand. His face suddenly solidified and made people notice a dangerous situation.

Faust said to Lilulu with his lips: "Fight, fight, it's--"

Seeing that Lilulu had no response, he couldn't understand his lips at all, so he could only speak out directly:

"Get ready for the fight, two ladies."

When Garbo thought of what Faust had done before, he suddenly reacted.

She naturally looked at the obscure mezzanine space between the beam columns. Every officer of the Imperial Army received a complete natural education - in order to better respond to the attacks of Darwinian creatures.

Garbo knew that spiders would build webs in old ruins. In theory, a completely dilapidated building like the Faraday Institute should have spider webs in every corner between the vault and the column.

But after coming in, Faust looked carefully at the subtle parts of each vault in the hall and the middle hall in the candlelight.

Jiabao also saw it very clearly. There were no spiders in almost every vault, and there were not many spider webs left.

No wonder she always feels disharmonious in the ruins!

Because there are almost no common spider webs to see, Garbo knows that bats are not natural enemies of spiders, but both feed on small insects and are in the same position in the ecological niche.

Therefore, where there are bats, there are often no spiders, because spiders are no match for bats in terms of predation efficiency.

She was panicked and immediately opened all the metal buckles of the large suitcase, and seized the time to put all the parts of the No. 2 Power A L-shaped "Bombie" on her body.

Faust heard the sound of foreign objects gliding quickly from the air, and he sneered and threw the candle into the front of the bench, where there were many curtains and carpets stacked.

As soon as the candle fell, the small orange flame quickly ignited a large amount of cloth, spreading to the red fire.

The fire was shining brightly, and Lilulu raised her head in the direction of breaking through the air, and then immediately was shocked by the terrifying appearance of the dart bat under the highlight:

"There are ghosts! ghosts! monsters!"

Faust held the sword in both hands, gently stimulated the Swift Sword, split the bench with excellent control and force, and then picked out the iron nails from the wooden bench.

He said to Lilulu: "Miss Lilulu, your weapon--worrying your big drive again, and you're going to kill these ghosts!"

Jiabao has also prepared the power armor there. The scorching steam sprayed countless dust into the air. A little sunlight shone in, and you can clearly see the dust in the air along the light.

Faust smiled disdainfully. These cultists hid in the inner hall and did not take advantage of the three of them to take action before they reacted. Perhaps they felt that the inner hall was dark and narrow, and it was more suitable to take advantage of the night battle of the dart bat?

Unfortunately, they have missed the fighter plane.

"We cannot prove by real inventory that there are more evil people in real life in a certain era than in another era. But we can say that in a certain era, malicious disguise is indeed more reasonable and practical."
